Japan's Meteorological and Geophysics Agency estimates 17 areas hit by tsunamis as high as three meters. The 17 areas are:

5. Pacific Coast Aomori
6. Ibaraki
7. Kujukuri region and Sotobo, Chiba
8. Island of Izu Islands
9. Eastern Hokkaido coast
10. Beaches west Hokkaido
11. Sea of Japan, Aomori
12. UCHIBO region, Chiba
13. Ogaswara Island
14. Sagami Bay and the Miura Peninsula
15. Shizuoka
16. Wakayama
17. Tokushima
